Titanium-Nickel Shape Memory Alloy Wire

NiTi SMA wire is manufactured through precise melting, drawing, annealing, and training processes to tailor its mechanical properties and transformation behavior. Wires are available in various diameters (typically 0.05–1.0 mm), surface finishes (oxidized, polished, or etched), and transformation temperature ranges to meet specific application needs.

Classification:

  • Titanium-Nickel shape memory alloy wire, commonly known as NiTi wire or SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) wire, is a functional material renowned for its unique ability to "remember" and return to a predefined shape when heated above its transformation temperature. Combining excellent mechanical properties with shape memory and superelastic behavior, NiTi wire is widely used in medical, aerospace, robotics, and smart material applications.

    Key Features:

    • Material Composition: Approximately 55% Nickel and 45% Titanium (atomic ratio), customizable to adjust transformation temperatures

    • Shape Memory Effect (SME): Returns to its original shape when heated above the austenite finish temperature (Af)

    • Superelasticity: Exhibits large, reversible deformation under mechanical stress at body or ambient temperature

    • High Fatigue Resistance: Suitable for cyclic loading applications

    • Biocompatibility: Safe for medical and implantable device applications

    Applications:

    • Medical devices: Stents, orthodontic wires, guidewires, and surgical instruments

    • Actuators and sensors: In robotics, micro-actuation, aerospace systems, and adaptive structures

    • Smart textiles and wearables

    • Temperature-sensitive switches and couplings

    • Aerospace and automotive systems requiring responsive components

    Advantages:

    • Reversible deformation with precise control

    • Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and durable

    • High energy density and silent actuation

    • Customizable transformation temperatures (typically between -50°C and 110°C) depending on alloy processing
