Molybdenum surface nitriding is a technology that generates a nitride film on the surface of molybdenum through chemical reactions or physical methods. The significance and effects of this process are reflected in the following aspects:
1. Improved surface hardness and wear resistance
After nitriding, the molybdenum surface forms a layer of high-hardness molybdenum nitride (such as Mo₂N or MoN), which has good wear resistance and can significantly extend the service life of molybdenum materials in friction environments.
2. Enhanced corrosion resistance
Molybdenum nitride has excellent corrosion resistance, capable of resisting the erosion of acidic, alkaline, and saline solutions. This greatly improves the stability of molybdenum materials in corrosive environments (such as chemical and marine engineering).
3. Improved thermal stability and oxidation resistance
The nitrided molybdenum surface has enhanced high-temperature oxidation resistance, and the nitride layer formed in high-temperature environments can protect the molybdenum substrate from oxidation, thereby extending the high-temperature service life of the material.
4. Increased surface smoothness and reduced friction
The smoothness of the nitrided molybdenum surface is improved, and the friction coefficient is reduced. This is particularly beneficial for applications requiring low-friction surfaces (such as bearings and sliding components).
5. Improved catalytic performance
Molybdenum nitrides (especially Mo₂N) exhibit excellent catalytic activity in certain catalytic reactions, such as ammonia synthesis, hydrodesulfurization, and nitrogen reduction. This modification enhances the application value of molybdenum materials in the catalytic field.
6. Enhanced surface electrical performance
Molybdenum nitride films have good conductivity and are widely used in microelectronics and optoelectronics, particularly as electrode materials or to extend the functionality of molybdenum-based semiconductors.
Main application areas
- Industrial field: Surface modification treatment for molds, tools, bearings, etc.
- Energy and catalysis: Used as a catalyst in energy catalytic reactions.
- Electronic devices: Used to manufacture thin-film resistors, sensors, and other electronic devices.
- Aerospace: Used in extreme environments with high temperatures and strong corrosion.
Through nitriding treatment, the comprehensive performance of molybdenum materials is significantly improved to meet the needs of more complex application scenarios.
